My New Favorite Creations

Hey all, just wanted to send out a quick post about a few of my newest creations that I am currently in love with.

Things have been quite busy at my Etsy shop lately, which is awesome, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop creating new pieces.  I will always make time for that.  My head is contstantly filled with a million new ideas.

So, over the past couple weeks, I’ve made some new necklaces that I am so excited about.  A couple of which were a real pain in the rear to get right, but turned out exactly as I wanted.

Here’ s a look at the first one, or four.  I call them my {insert Hogwarts house here} charm necklaces.  They are just perfect.  It all started with these pretty glass vials I picked up, which I originally bought to make earrings, but they ended up too heavy.   Then I picked up some cabochon pendants, you know, the pendants you can put a picture on and cover it with a glass dome.  I was thinking of making necklaces with the house crests and then an idea hit me, what about quotes?  Like, the Sorting Hat’s original quote about each house?  Perfect.  And so, the true “your house” necklace was born.

It should be no surprise that my first idea on what kind of cabochon to make would be something Harry Potter related.  I just have so much fun creating those pieces.

Now this was one of those necklaces that was a real pain to get right.   I started with the Slytherin one.  I always do when I’m doing something for each house.  Because I’m a Slytherin, and we’re awesome.  Anywho, the problem I kept having was getting it to lay right.  It took a few hours and lots of adjusting, but I finally figured it out and am in love with the result.  I wore it to my son’s cross country meet the next day.   It looked so much prettier than I thought it would when worn.  And after my 7 year old spent some time tugging it and banging the charms together, it held up awesome, so it was ready to list.  All my jewelry goes through a wearing it trial to make sure it lays right, looks good, is comfortable, etc.  That way I know my customers will be happy with my designs.

Here’s the necklaces all done:

The quotes are hard to read from that view, so here’s a close up of the best one Image may be NSFW.

As you can see, I put the cabochon with the quote, the vial of beads in each house color like the house points hourglasses and each house animal on the necklace.  Love these, hope my customers will too.

Next, sticking with the cabochons and the Harry Potter theme, I designed this gorgeous double layer necklace:

I’ve actually had that gold doe pendant for months.  And I even almost returned it twice, but it never felt right.  I’m glad I didn’t.  This necklace is truly gorgeous.  It’s got the gold doe representing Lily and Snape’s patronuses, the cabochon with Always printed on antiqued paper {or cardstock stained with coffee :)} and a deathly hallows charm.  They go together so perfectly, I love the mix of antique brass and gold.  This really is a magical piece to me.  Capturing so much of what Harry Potter means to its fans.  This necklace is also responsible for Pinterest now being my second highest traffic source to my shop.  Two of these are currently off to South Africa and the UK.  I love my international customers!  It’s so awesome to think that my creations are being worn and loved all over the world.

And now my very latest and totally cool creation.  Another necklace, yes, I guess I’m in a necklace making mood lately Image may be NSFW.

This super cool necklace was inspired by that awesome vintage style purple cat pendant that is this piece’s focal point.  And the mix of black and silver rhinestone chain give it a totally unique and super stylish look. Getting that rhinestone chain to lay right was another problem area for me, but it’s all good now and worth it.  It’s just not right without it.  Take a look:
